Estonia Legalizes Online Gambling

Estonia has recently legalized online gambling, in attempts to increase the European country’s tax income. There is evidence that this decision had been spurred on by the success of the Baltic Poker Festival hosted by PokerStars.

Until 2011, Estonia citizens will only be allowed to play online games on Estonian-based platforms, such as Playtech’s collaboration with the Olympic Casino Group. After 2011, Estonian gamers may likely be allowed to play on international platforms. Since Playtech is the only legal gaming platform in Estonia, it’s got quite the money-making opportunity in its hands right now, but international online gaming companies are already hard at work in the process of trying to earn Estonia’s (future) business with large advertising campaigns and potential investments.

According to Mor Weizer, Playtech’s Executive Manager, “We are truly glad of this opportunity to start our partnership with Olympic as the leading casino entertainment provider in Central and Eastern Europe.”
