According to the game creator, they are further working with the United Kingdom police forces and the FBI to track down further “phishing thieves.” Continue reading below for more details on the case.

A 23-year-old man in Avon and Somerset was reported to have been arrested on November 24th by the Police National e-crime Unit on the pretense of various computer misuse offenses. As it turns out, this man was using phishing e-mails to trick Runescape players into divulging their login credentials to their online game accounts.
Once “phishing thieves” get access to players’ accounts, they then collect all the players’ unique items and virtual goods and sell them for Runescape gold, which ultimately can be sold for cold hard cash at a rate of two million Runescape gold for £6 (about $10 USD).
The Police National e-crime Unit is hard at work trying to catch these gaming thieves and are working with forces both in the United States and the United Kingdom, as these are the biggest audiences for Runescape. There are rumors of more upcoming arrests as Jagex has information on the game thieves’ whereabouts.
